Province: MendozaAlamos Seleccion Malbec 2013
Subregion: Uco Valley
Grapes: 100% Malbec
Aging: 9 to 12 months in French and American oak
Toasted pine comes across in waves as this malbec gets going, with just a bit of tire rubber underneath. But all those prosaic thoughts are banished once it hits the palate; from there it’s all about the fruit: red plums laced with white pepper and a dab of strawberry jam. The acid on top is a little tomato-y – a hot harvest season, perhaps? – but the tannic bite suggests the wine could still age a year or two.
