Boom! That’s the feeling you get when you stick your nose into a glass of this Italian varietal from mile-high vineyards, as powerful tar and leather, concealing a few red berries, threaten to overwhelm the palate. Those acrid aromas settle down a bit in the mouth, allowing the berries to come to the fore, but they’re still present. Contrasting the flavors, the wine’s texture is as smooth as silk, with good body and a lingering, slightly sharp finish. Quite the experience overall, and a worthy contender for strong cheeses.
