Sometimes a wine has a bouquet so luxurious that you hardly have to drink it. This one fairly attacks the nose from inside the glass with a stunning array of stewed fruits, balsam, angel’s food cake, and Mexican chocolate. Merlot takes the upper hand in this edition, and it shows, with a smooth center of black cherry jam (okay, there are a few blueberries in there, too) lined by the spicier notes of the cabernet and malbec. It’s a relatively hot wine, with at least 15% alcohol, and you could just as well enjoy it from a brandy snifter as with a meal of charred meats. Either way, it’s a robust jolt of flavor for a vigorous evening’s drinking.
