Province: MendozaGimenez Riili Buenos Hermanos Merlot 2012
Grapes: 100% Merlot
Aging: 8 months in French oak
This wine demands your attention with the contrast of its delicate fuchsia rim and its leathery, almost marine stink, mixed with overripe dark berries. The berry-leather motif continues on the tongue, with tannins just about held in check. Not at all like your typically sweet and smooth New World merlot; more of a bull in a china shop, ready for those short ribs and other strongly flavored cuts of beef.
Available directly from the winery and in stores from 2014.Reviewed in December 2013
