Province: MendozaLEO Malbec 2012
Grapes: 100% Malbec
Aging: 1 month with oak pieces
A high-toned malbec in a style that tends more toward the Old World than the New, with berries and cherries more red than dark, all quite present and rounded out with a hint of ginger. There’s just a hint of oak, but malbec purists will be pleased. The structure here is likely to endure for a few years, and the finish is clean if not overly generous – by contrast to the soccer player who gave his nickname to the wine, with some proceeds going to Lionel Messi’s charitable foundation.
